Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to Common Queries about Dock Equipment
A standard efficient loading dock system typically consists of three core components: a Dock Leveler (to bridge the gap between warehouse and truck), an Industrial Sectional Door (for security and insulation), and a Dock Seal or Shelter (to seal the environment). For enhanced safety, we also recommend installing Vehicle Restraints and Traffic Lights.
Dock Seals use foam pads that the truck compresses against to create a tight air seal, ideal for warehouses serving trucks of uniform size. Dock Shelters use curtains that hug the sides of the truck, allowing for a wider variety of truck heights and sizes while providing full access to the trailer opening for loading.
If your facility handles high-volume traffic, a Hydraulic Dock Leveler is the best choice due to its ease of operation, lower maintenance costs, and durability. Mechanical Levelers are a budget-friendly option suitable for low-frequency use where electricity is not readily available.
You should calculate the total weight of your forklift plus the heaviest load you expect to handle. As a general rule, we recommend a capacity safety factor of roughly 1.5 to 2 times that total weight. SEPPES offers standard capacities of 6 tons, 10 tons, and up to 15 tons to meet heavy-duty requirements.
The most effective way is to install Vehicle Restraints (Truck Locks). They hook onto the truck’s rear impact guard to prevent “drive-aways” (driver leaving too early) and “dock creep.” Additionally, Dock Traffic Lights (Red/Green) provide clear communication between the driver and the forklift operator.
Yes. Once the order is confirmed, SEPPES technical team will provide detailed CAD pit drawings. It is crucial that the civil work for the concrete pit is constructed strictly according to these drawings to ensure the leveler fits perfectly and operates smoothly.
Yes. While we offer standard international sizes (such as 6x8ft, 7x8ft), we specialize in custom manufacturing. Whether you need to replace an existing unit in an odd-sized pit or require a specific platform length for unique operations, we can tailor the solution to your needs.
For fully loaded containers where pallets are right at the door edge, we recommend the Telescopic Lip Dock Leveler. The lip can extend and retract precisely, allowing the forklift to reach the very last pallets without damaging the cargo, which a standard hinged-lip leveler might not achieve.
For standard specifications, our production time is typically 15-20 days. For custom voltages, colors, or sizes, it may take slightly longer. All SEPPES dock equipment comes with a standard warranty (e.g., 12-24 months) and lifetime technical support.
